New York in the 50's and 60's

presents works by the German composer Stefan Wolpe, who emigrated to the US in 1938 and became one of the most influential figures-especially as a teacher - for a whole generation of composers. The music of this highly fascinating creative personality has gradually been attracting increased attention in the years since his death (1972) and has been featured in several festivals (Cologne 1988, Witten 1992, Berlin 1992, Toronto 1993, Chicago 1993 etc.), publications and recordings. Besides compositions from Wolpe, works by several of his students and colleagues could be performed, offering together an interesting view into the complex scene of New York in the years of abstract expressionism.
